bulletThe Long Beach Fire Department will have a dedication ceremony for its new pumper engine at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2008 at the Fire Department on Klondyke Road. The pumper truck was donated by Arcelor-Mittal.

 

bulletThe City of Long Beach has received a $6.7 Million grant to rebuild Jeff Davis Avenue. This will include monies to obtain property right-of-ways, new sidewalks, curbs, storm drains and new designs for the intersections of Third, Fourth, and Fifth Streets. Included in the grant will be buried street lights, utilities, including power, telephone, and TV cable. Plans are to create new sidewalks one block East and West of Jeff Davis. Furthermore, the plans include creating sidewalks that will connect Jeff Davis Avenue on West Third Street to Church Street at War Memorial park.

 

bulletThe City has received a $5.3 million grant to replace the existing City Hall with a new complex. Preliminary architectural design has begun and the building will be located on the existing Jeff Davis Avenue site.

 

bulletThrough a $1.3 million grant from FEMA Public Assistance and donations from Mittal Steel, Long Beach will replace the destroyed Long Beach Fire Sub-Station previously located on Fourth Street with a new station to be located on East Second Street (near Roger's Chiropractic Clinic) on land donated by Mississippi Power Company.

 

bulletThe City has also received a $1.6 million grant to be used for a Town Green. The City is in the process of working with the Long Beach School District to obtain the old Harper-McCaughan School property to construct an outdoor theater and park on our main street to bring more activity back to Jeff Davis Avenue.

 

bulletGround has been broken for a Senior Center/Recreation Building located on Daugherty Road near the Long Beach SportsPlex. The center will have a day room, craft area, and a gymnasium to serve our citizens.

 

bulletA $1.5 million Police Station has been completed. The Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony took place March 12, 2008, with Governor Haley Barbour attending and cutting the ribbon.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

As you can see, we have many municipal projects underway and we are excited about each one. It has taken several years to get these projects approved and will be several more years until completion.

The future of Long Beach is much brighter and Long Beach will be a much better and more pleasant place to live when our improvements and repairs are finished. I appreciated your cooperation and patience in the ongoing effort to recover and rebuild. Please know our staff is at work at all times and know that we have your best interest at heart when decisions are made.
